Happy International Women's Day

A great day to celebrate some of our brilliant women artists at The Kane Gallery.  I'm really proud to  have worked on 2 solo exhibitions for them in the last 12 months - Sophie Long at Bocabar Glastonbury in the summer last year and Georgie's current exhibition at Bocabar Finzels Reach - which is on now till 26 April.  This along with my regular exhibtion 'The House of Kane' at Berkeley House Hotel and the 'Home of the Kane Gallery' at The Shakespeare, Totterdown Bristol.

For Sophie painting is her first language.  And she gives voice to the creatures we share this planet with in her evocative, vibrant paintings.  I've been working with Sophie for a couple of years now and am delighted to exhibit her work at my two permanent exhibitions at Berkeley House Hotel and The Shakespeare in Totterdown.

Sophie: works mainly in acrylics, exploring the boundaries of expressive art, usually in the way of exuberant animal portraits.  After four years she is a prolific artist full time she is firmly established on the Bristol scene.

Here are three of her works from The House of Kane exhibition at The Berkeley House Hotel, Berkeley Square, Bristol.

Emma Caton

Emma studied her fine art degree in Bristol during the-mid nineties, which she says was 'an interesting time in the city with regards the music culture and rise of street art, partly the reason that drew me to this diversely creative city was the underground raw energy of the place.'   She became involved in creating art pieces and events in disused spaces, on the streets predominantly sculptural pieces in resin.

Mary Roundcefield

Dress with attitiude  by Mary Rouncefield Hand-printed screen prints on acid free paper

£160

Mary is a printmaker and artist working in drawing, textiles and some screen print. She is based in Bristol.

She has a life long interest in mathematics and many of her screen prints feature mathematical graphs or patterns. She also uses the symbol of a corset as a metaphor for the mental discipline imposed by mathematics. The end result, for the mathematician, will often be elegant, concise and beautiful, but to achieve that, she/he must conform to the conventions and logic of their subject.

Here are two pieces from Mary at Berkeley Square House Hotel. View by appointment.
